Best Choir in Kent 2019

We were delighted to be declared Kent Choir of the Year by MASC in Folkestone on 29th September 2019. We performed three songs to a large audience of other choirs and 5 judges in the Leas Cliff Hall. Competition was stiff and the standard was high, with choirs singing gospel, soul, African, ‘50s and classical pieces. Front Room were on stage last, and tension was building in the hall. We sang our first number – Swing Low Sweet Chariot – and the audience burst into loud applause! We relaxed, and sang our other two pieces – And So It Goes and Let’s Do It – and felt we had done well, but was it enough? It was the unanimous decision of the judges that we had! We now have a trophy to keep, and lots of happy memories of a wet and windy day in Folkestone.

What we've been up to:

On the 8^th of November 2025 the choir made a welcome return to Southfleet village hall in their Autumn Sparklers concert, where, accompanied by Judy Smith on the piano we sang a selection of popular tunes including arrangements of the Beatles' Michelle, Yesterday and Eleanor Rigby, along with a host of other songs from Georgy Girl to Alexander's Ragtime Band. The men of the choir gave a moving rendition of He ain't Heavy, and the Back Room Boys amused the audience with their barbershop renditions of Paddlin' Madeline Home, and Their Hearts were Full of Spring. The Singing Six sang some of their favourites such as Hernando's Hideaway and King of the Road and Alan English played a couple of solo slots on clarinet, with Bluesette and Petite Fleur.
As usual, the audience was both entertained and enthralled by the range of musical delights on offer. We look forward to returning at a future date.
